Being the future of society, FES Uganda pays special attention to the youth of the nation, who are partly very sceptical about the change in the political system. Objective is to assist young people constructively to participate in and engage with parties in preparation for the transitional process.

Workshops on multi-party democracy are held with the Uganda Youth Network (UYONET) in order to develop a code of conduct for youth organizations, to prevent violence in the political arena. Parliamentarians representing the Youth are strengthened with the help of seminars to support the link between the young people and parliamentary representatives.

Seminars and conferences are conducted with the Makerere Law Society to highlight the role of the legal profession in the democratisation process in Uganda. The aim is to promote a culture of constitutionalism and a legal framework. Parties are challenged to come up with political programmes that include youth issues of importance to them. The Debating Club at Makerere University, sponsored by FES, holds meetings to foster a culture of dialogue and tolerance to help to create a culture which tolerates differences of opinion.
