Regional Integration
FES through its regional work is supporting public dialogue as well as decision-making processes aimed at the establishment of a sound and effective East African Community. Our objective is to promote among stakeholders an understanding of the opportunities afforded by and possible effects of regional integration, and to contribute to the strengthening of the democratic character of the integration process. FES supports the East African Trade Union Confederation (EATUC) to coordinate and integrate workers’ interests and concerns in the East African Integration process.
From a regional perspective, FES Uganda supports civil society to engage with regional institutions like the East African Legislative Assembly on social, economic and political issues.
FES regional activities include workshops and conferences for stakeholders regarding regional integration, security issues and social justice; conducting research on the impact of integration in East Africa on the people and working in partnership with the EALA to consolidate regional integration. FES also supports the consultative processes on the establishment of the common market and the development of the East African Trade Union confederation social charter.
