Pluralistic debate on societal and political development

A democratic system depends on fact-based and lively societal debate. This does not only generate information but creates the transparency necessary for accountability and meaningful citizen participation. Offering diverse views and alternative approaches to national challenges is a crucial element in developing innovative solutions. Widening the scope to include regional experiences can further drive the debate forward.

The FES is engaged in a continuous dialogue on democracy, the rule of law, access to information and the benefits of regional integration with different political and academic institutions and organisations of the civil society. To strengthen democratic dialogue, the FES supports research and fact-based analysis and helps to establish platforms that bring together civil society organisations with different political orientations, academia, parliamentarians, representatives of political parties and media practitioners to generate, share and discuss evidence-based information as a foundation for critical debate.
